Due to the advantages of high torque density, low torque ripple and more design freedoms, flux modulation machines have broad application prospects in servo system, renewable energy generation and transportation electrification, etc. Topology families of flux modulation machines include vernier machine, magnetic geared machine, flux switching machine, flux reversal machine, variable reluctance machine and so on. In order to improve performances such as torque density, power factor, efficiency, and to promote industrial application, further research on topology, design and control of flux modulation machine is needed. The purpose of this special session is to provide a platform for researchers worldwide to share their recent research progress on the flux modulation machine, ranging from novel topology, optimal design, control strategy and application of various flux modulation machines.

Topics of interest include, but not limited to:

• Analytical modeling

• Electromagnetic analysis

• Novel topologies

• Multi-objective optimization techniques

• Multi-electrical or mechanical ports flux modulation machines

• Loss and thermal analysis

• New materials and manufacturing

• Novel control strategies

• Applications studies
